Notes

  • Welcome Game: 60 second story
  • PermaplanTreffen:
    • Arrival: 3 cars and a bus by Johannes
    • Food: vegan lasagne, fruits from the garden
    • eight people will come (including Eszter and Markus)
  • release this week:
    • reason: mainly for bug fixes and updating landing page
    • issues are tagged as release-critical
    • finish MRs by Tuesday
    • testing (Wednesday - Thursday): Ines
    • release on Friday with infrastructure and onboarding
  • scientific writing:
    • terminology: definition of meaning; words are often overloaded
    • example: "significant" usually refers to statistical significance in papers
    • everything not specified as term has common meaning known by computer scientists
    • background vs related work:
      • background: what you build upon, your work enhances, what existed before
      • vs. related Work: e.g., similar approach or method
      • related Work: comparing approach to similar approaches that one didn't build upon
        • e.g., different domain or data structure, hence not build upon but comparable
        • compares experiment, approach, or implementation
        • hence belongs after the implementation
        • can be very far-fetched
        • less strict requirements than background of what can be included
    • approach and implementation should be separated; implementation as short as possible
    • only the needed, specific parts are to be included
    • methodology: next week
  • scientific style:
    • writing in the scientific "we" (community in computer science) vs "I" (used in math etc.)
    • clear writing style
    • avoid:
      • modal verbs: may, can (make unclear if you did it or not)
      • mood changers: however, but (e.g., instead of starting with "however...", may a new paragraph be fitting?)
    • LaTeX itemize/description presents a clear formatting
    • capitalization: depending on the length of the word, different to German
    • if not a sentence, don't capitalize
    • nginx and similar terms are not capitalized
  • status round:
    • Ines:
      • meeting coordination: Nextcloud chat
      • doing fine but stressed due to the thesis
      • proof-reading can be done outside Perma too
      • follow-up issues were created but do not require adjustment of the thesis
      • regression: Bezier curves
      • release testing: Noah will provide input
    • Christoph: Johannes will take over heatmap
    • Elia: thesis, methodology; feedback on MRs needs implementation
    • Hannes: MR for decision is up; help with Nextcloud email not sending
    • Johannes: onboarding MR: add yourself to the landing page for the release
    • Lea: Keycloak login not working
    • Mo: compare rsync; requirement: switchover should be as late as possible for best user experience; testing
    • Moritz: finish testing (Firefox and Chrome); will follow up via email concerning PermaplanT participation post bachelor
    • Noah: testing - release-critical
    • Vseslav: do issue-review
    • for everyone: "babysitting MRs" (keep them up to date, reply, implement feedback, etc.)
